This blog’s name derives from:
“May I kiss you then? On this miserable paper? I might as well open the window and kiss the night air.”
-Franz Kafka
Though I might have alternatively chosen the burning thornbush for:
“The thornbush is the old obstacle in the road. It must catch fire if you want to go further.”
-Franz Kafka
I am intending to light those fires.
A few things:
- I have an MFA in Creative Writing from one of the best writing programs in the nation (world?).
- I’ve had stories and poems published and have won some nice awards.
- I’m working on a new novel, I think, and have one that will (my choice) never be read by anyone outside my immediate circle.
- I have a love/hate relationships with writing fiction. (My writing takes other forms, too, mostly poetry and I have difficulty sometimes with that form, too.)
- I don’t think those are the most important things about me though they do get listed first. (And I’m curious about that, and hope you might be, too.)
- I’ve moved to the West Coast — from the Midwest, where I spent a year before moving there from the South Atlantic Coast — not knowing anyone here. (But I haven’t ever known anyone anywhere that I moved to previous to my moves.) I’m not a native of any of these areas.
- I have a husband (P) who I may mention but anonymously, and children whose identities I will also never reveal and will likely not mention much either.
- I’m interested in, if not losing, then definitely examining my “personal religion” — by which I mean what I think of as those nearly subconscious beliefs by which I operate.
- I want this to be a more personal account of what goes on behind the scenes, which both repels and fascinates me.
That’s enough about me. Thanks for dropping by. Stay and get to know me, if you like.
